Fox will launch it’s new soccer channel, ‘Fox Soccer Plus’ on March 1st in HD that will broadcast Premiership and other leagues and “will draw content from Setanta USA, whose sublicenses with Fox are expiring.”
Setanta USA will broadcast matches up until the end of February. Fox Soccer Plus will begin showing Premier League games on the weekend of March 6, as well as FA Cup quarter-finals, Serie A and Champions League.
The channel will be a Premium Service channel, as was Setanta. There is no confirmation on whether or not the channel will be available to New Yorkers on Time Warner but Fox have set up a website where you can request for your cable channel to carry the channel.
First Touch started reporting this potential take-over last week at which time a Time Warner rep confirmed to us that they would be carrying the channel. However, we are aware that these service providers are prone to say anything to get you to sign up to their service so we are not taking this as a done deal. We urge everyone to contact Time Warner through the above link.
“We are committed to bringing the best world-class soccer experience to fans,”said David Nathanson, general manager and executive vice president of FSC, in a statement. “As America’s interest in the world’s game is increasing, the launch of Fox Soccer Plus will complement and enhance our current programming on Fox Soccer Channel. Fox Soccer Plus builds on our position as the preferred television destination for American soccer fans as well as expatriates who want to keep in touch with their home teams.”
