Guyana Juniors dispatched Partizani FC 6-2 at the Parade Field in Brooklyn to cut Sporting Astoria’s lead atop Metro Div. II (East) to three points on a quiet Memorial Day weekend in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League.
Julian Cambridge and Deroy Verwayne each struck twice as Juniors took out the previous weekend’s D’Arpino Cup semi-final disappointment versus New Hyde Park on their lowly foes.

Shomari Ramsey and Lenson McDougal weighed in with a goal apiece, while Elsen Kodra and Elton Lalaj, who connected with a diving header from an Istvan Bordas cross, replied for Partizani.
Guyana improved to 9-3 (27) with four fixtures remaining. They play CD Iberia (June 4), New York Wanderers (June 11), OMM (June 18 and TAMEF (July 2).

East leaders Sporting Astoria (9-2-3, 30) have only two games outstanding: away to SC Eintracht on June 4 and at home to Iberia on July 2.

ROCKS TUMBLE
Robbie Walsh also netted with a brilliant diving header in a losing effort to SC Brasil who snapped Shamrock's three-game winning streak in a 'B' Division tussle at Brooklyn's McCarran Park. The Rocks crashed 3-1.
Walsh, who's also the first team coach, dove low like a swallow and was, in his estimation, never more than four inches off the ground when he headed in a long range Joe Behan free-kick at the far post.

The goal pulled the Shamrock Over-30s to within one after the free scoring Alexandre (10th, 30th) had given Brasil a 2-0 half time lead.

Nominally a sweeper, Walsh was installed on the left side of midfield on resumption to, as he chuckled, "utilize his 33 year-old speed."
"Me and Joe Behan began to link up well," he said, and the partnership paid dividends in the 65th minute with the spectacular header that rattled the Brazilians.

Shamrock, with Randall Freeman, among others, having a good game, continued to play well and fashioned a couple of chances – none of them taken -- to snatch the equalizer.

They were still in it late in the game when the remarkable Kevin McPartland, who started off as an infield player, switched places with goalie Joe Mulligan at the interval and stopped a Brazilian penalty.

However, Junior killed off Shamrock in the dying minutes with Brasil's third goal. With the victory, the South Americans wrapped up the 'B' Division (West) championship with 12 wins, two losses and two draws for a tally of 38 points.

Shamrock fell to 3-9-3 (12) in fourth position in the six-team Western conference, with one match remaining.
"The lads played well against one of the best Over-30 teams in the division," said Walsh. "It was enjoyable."
Brasil defender Evandiro was complimentary of the Rocks.
"They're a very competitive team and very physical," he noted.

LEAGUE DOUBLE
Pancyprian Freedom added the First Division (West) Reserve title to the first team crown they lifted a fortnight ago with a 2-0 win over second place CD Iberia in their championship decider last week.
The result gave Pancyprian an unassailable 34 points from 11 victories two losses and a draw in reserve team action in the West with one match to play.

Iberia (9-3-3, 30) can only finish with 33 points if they win their remaining fixture.
