Standings, results and other stats

Promotion boys Kandia pooh-poohed New York Albanians’ reputation as one of the Cosmopolitan Soccer League’s most seasoned teams, drubbing the Bronx club 3-0 at Evander Childs High School last Sunday on the opening day of the 2005-2006 campaign.

There was also an impressive win for comeback side New York Fury, who held off Lansdowne Bhoys 2-1 in Yonkers despite playing with ten men for the last 50 minutes.
Kandia, who beat out Fury for the Second Division title last season, needed just ten seconds to announce their arrival in the top flight.

“They didn’t even touch the ball,” noted Kandia coach Colin Hemmings, whose men strung together several passes before Dave Taylor crossed for Michael Bailey to score.
Bruce Tulloch (65th) and substitute Gene Smalls (85th), a two-goal hero in the Jamaicans’ 5-3 reserve romp, sealed the win.

DOUBLE DODD
Dylan Dodd’s double (10th, 25th) at Tibbet’s Brook Park saw off Lansdowne in Fury’s first game back to Division One. In between his brace, Fury, runners-up to Kandia in the Second last season, had a player sent-off for dissent, but the Irishmen were unable to capitalize until Damien Mescall’s late consolation (70th).
“We lost four players from last season and we don't have the same influx of young players coming over (from Ireland),” Lansdowne coach Paul Doherty said, lamenting a plight shared by the other Irish clubs in the CSL.
Fury’s reserves won 3-0.

FREEDOM MARCH
Dethroned CSL champs Pancyprian Freedoms thrashed CD Iberia 6-2 with 20 year-old forward Taso Polydekis, netting a hat trick. Nick Christopher and Julio DeSantos (two), were also on target.
Marco Hamilton and Anthony Russo accounted for both goals and assists for Iberia.
“Although we scored a lot of goals, they’ve a good team, Iberia,” GM Lefteris Eliades complimented the visitors, who lost the reserve fixture by the same scoreline.

KICKER RALLY
Manhattan Kickers overcame a first half stupor, during which they trailed 2-0, to stun Barnstonworth Rovers 4-2 at the Grand Street Field on the East Side.
Second in the West last season, Kickers responded to coach Mike Fitzgerald’s half time pep talk with goals from Hussein Nasreddin, Man of the Match Ryan Olsen (two), and Ari Doloweski.
Rovers’ reserves prevailed 5-0.

NYAC HELD
Former MetroStar Mark Semioli’s coaching debut with New York Athletic ended in a goalless tie with Polonia at Travers Island. Semioli and Brendan Ready have taken over the helm from new dad Jimmy Wurster.
Elsewhere in Division One, champions New York Greek-American/Atlas had their road game with Brooklyn Italians rescheduled.

CELTIC EDGED
Dubliner Jimmy Smith spoiled Manhattan Celtic’s Second Division debut with the only goal of the match (60th) in a 1-0 outcome for Central Park Rangers “White,” one of two CPR teams in the division, at Chelsea’s Pier 40 ground.
Celtic’s reserves won 2-1.
At the Metropolitan Oval, CPR “Red” crushed Koha 5-1 courtesy of an Adi Gallagher hat trick and Michael Sieman’s brace.
Koha’s second team crashed 5-2.

BULLISH BULGARIA
Galin Andreev, George Iltchev and Svetoslav Kostov gave FC Bulgaria a winning start with a 3-0 Metro Div. 1 romp over Homenetmen at Wards Island.
Later at Wards Island, Stal Mielec edged Bergen Kickers 2-1, while George Radulescu (two) and Dani Anton starred in Ridgewood Romac’s 3-1 triumph over BW Gottschee at Queens Children’s Hospital.
Also in Metro Div. 1, Clarkstown were awarded a 2-0 forfeit decision over New York Wanderers.

METRO DEUCE
Odingo Riley struck twice as Guyana Juniors celebrated their return to the league with a 2-1 result over newcomers Sporting Astoria at Long Island City HS.

PARTISAN EFFORT
Strugglers last season when they finished bottom of Metro Div. 2, FC Partizani showed spunk in pipping New York Wanderers 2-1 at Randalls Island.
Istvan Bordas, with perfect placement into the top right hand after excellent control, and Tanzanian striker Radyn Nyagaly, etched the win.
Said a happy Eni Zejnati: “Wanderers tried getting the equalizer but our defense didn’t give them many chances.”
In a battle of the rookies, TAMEF SC knocked off Gotham Argonauts 3-1.

TOUGH BUNDY
SC Eintracht veteran Bundy Doczy played 90 minutes and had a goal in his Over-30 side’s 2-1 victory over Barnstonworth Rovers ‘B’ at the Metropolitan Oval, then suited up and scored again for Eintracht’s Metro Div. 2 team against CD Iberia two hours later.
Eintracht ran off 3-1 winners in that game with Peter Maris and Torsten Holmes also scoring.
Horia Crisan was the other Eintracht Over-30 marksman against Rovers

BUTTE-FUL ASSIST
Tom Fike notched both goals in the 2-0 Barnstonworth Rovers ‘A’ result over BW Gottschee’s Over-30 team at Red Hook.
Eric Butte, Rovers’ sweeper but playing in midfield on the day, assisted on Fike’s first by dribbling into the box and laying a pass to the streaking forward.
After the game, both teams were invited to a free beer tasting by soccer aficionado Andrew Bronstein of SixPoint Brewing a few blocks from the Red Hook field.

METROS CLIPPED
GH Metros succumbed 3-1 to Guyana Veterans ‘B,’ whose Junior Walker, Robert Meertens and Bernard Britton tallied.
