Standings, results and other stats

Brazilian ace Julio DeSantos brought his early season tally for Pancyprian Freedoms to six with a four-goal blitz in the former CSL champs' 7-1drubbing of Lansdowne Bhoys at St. John's University on Sunday night.

The 29 year-old striker hit a quick brace (16th, 22nd) in the first half after Taso Polydekis, who's 20, had opened the scoring (12th).

Pancyprian led 5-0 at half time before DeSantos (70th, 77th) finished off the Irishmen. Simone (30th) and Nick Christopher (40th) were also on target for the Greek-Cypriots in the First Division fixture.

Lansdowne coach Paul Doherty left St. John's talking of chasing shadows after the torrid floodlit encounter.
"That's a serious outfit," raved Doherty, whose side netted a late consolation through Conor Hunter.

"It was generally a beautiful game," Pancyprian GM Lefteris Eliades summed up matter-of-factly.

Pancyprian have come out of the blocks flying this season. They routed CD Iberia 6-2 in their opener on Sept. 18 behind a Polydekis hat trick and DeSantos' double.

Pancyprian's reserves were 6-0 winners against Lansdowne.

POLE-AXED
New York Albanians showed up with only eight players for their match against Polonia at the Metropolitan Oval and were duly punished - albeit not before taking a shock lead.

Polonia's superior numbers ultimately prevailed 9-1 with Lukasc Zajac bagging the requisite hat trick and Lukasc Bielen and Bartek Pietrzko each claiming a brace. Mariusz Kuleszko and Krzysztof Koczon were the other scorers.

ATLAS TOPPLED
New York Athletic Club rookie Ryan Kneipper struck twice to hand defending champions New York Greek-American/Atlas a 2-1 defeat at Cardoza High School.
Ernest Murdakayez was the Greek scorer.
"Close game. Could have gone either way," said NYAC coach Mark Semioli, whose reserves lost 3-2.

SHANNON SHINES
Ex-Liberian international and MLS star Musa Shannon scored both goals in Barnstonworth Rovers' 2-2 tie with New York Fury at Randalls Island.
Dylan Dodd and Andres Padilla were the Fury marksmen.
Rovers' reserves prevailed 3-0.

 YOUNG GUNS
Leo Buttitta, a 17 year-old Xaverian High School senior, led Brooklyn Italians' young guns to a 1-0 win over promotion side Kandia at the Verrazano Sports Complex.
Buttitta (20th) was one of four Under-17 players fielded by new coach Issam Daoud.
Kandia took the reserve tussle 2-1.

CD CLASSIC
CD Iberia bounced back from the previous week's 6-2 pasting by Pancyprian to beat old rivals Manhattan Kickers 3-1 at the Grand Street Field.

Chris Richards (two) and Marco Hamilton starred for Iberia, while Joe Whiteman completed an "iron man" like performance on the day by notching Kickers' consolation after connecting in the reserves' 4-2 loss.
"The 3-1 result was indicative of how much we dominated the play," remarked Anthony Russo, a former Kicker who won the penalty from which Richards got his first goal.

GAELS SOAR
Skipper Stephen "Georgie" Doyle ended a two-year goal drought with a brace in Astoria Gaels' 4-2 Second Division win over Central Park Rangers "Red" at Red Hook.
Marty Scott (7th) and veteran Derek McKenna (35th) got the Irishmen's other goals. Hakan Nizam and Paul Meacham replied for the Reds, whose reserves eked out a 1-1 tie.

JAPAN TRIUMPH
Tomohiro Tsuchiya also played the "captain courageous" role for his club when he blasted in FC Japan's winner in a 2-1 decision over Central Park Rangers "White" at the Met Oval.
This, after CPR's Ronan had canceled out youngster Kotaro Tanaka's
debut effort for the Japanese.

"Overall, we played a very competitive game against a very quality (side)," said Japan's Tosh Tatezawa.
The reserve fixture ended 3-0 in CPR's favor.

ROOSEVELT STUMBLE
Tofol Vives (15th) had Roosevelt Island International's lone goal in a 3-1 loss to NIFA at Commodore Barry Field.
NIFA posted a 3-2 win in the curtain raiser.

CELTIC BLANKED
Manhattan Celtic's early woes continued as they fell 3-0 to Banatul at the Metropolitan Oval.
Vidu Cusu (10th) and Ardi Barbu (55th) were among the scorers for Banatul, 6-0 losers in the reserve game.

GOTTSCHEE FIGHT-BACK
Bergen Kickers, back in the league after a season out, blew a 2-0 lead in a 2-2 tie with BW Gottschee, in one of three Metro Div. 1 matches at Wards Island.
Raul Rodriguez (65th) and Milton Ospina (90th) earned Gottschee a share of the points.
Earlier, George Radulescu and Will Mudge struck for Ridgewood Romac and New York Wanderers, respectively in a 1-all affair.
And in the late game at Wards Island, Brendan Watkins' double (20th, 70th) lifted ASA McCarthy past Clarkstown 2-1.

METRO DIV. TWO
FC Bulgaria thrashed Polish side Stal Mielec 4-0 at the Metro Oval on Galin Andreev's trey and a goal by Stan Tishev.
Homenetmen, beaten 3-0 by the Bulgarians on the opening day, returned to full strength to whack Ukrainians 4-1, courtesy of Fodi Sarkis (15th, 65th) and Shant Simonian (50th, 80th).
At Wards Island, Radyn Nyagaly fired in the rebound from Hassan Husseini's long distance effort late in the second half to draw FC Partizani New York level with Sporting Astoria in a 1-1 tie.

Elsewhere, newcomers TAMEF SC hammered New York Wanderers 5-1 at Newtown High School, with Kevin Flynn getting the Wanderers face-saver; 8 Mile Creek topped SC Eintracht 1-0 at Randalls Island; while Shamrock's debut in Metro Div. 2 from the First Division ended in a 1-1 draw with OMM.
Michael Gadstone, 23, scored in the 30th minute for the Rocks.

'B' DIVISION
SC Eintracht edged New York Greek-American/Atlas 3-2 at Cardoza High School on goals by Anthony Alessandro (two) and Torsten Holmes.  Memo Cortes and Gus Tsirkas replied for the Greeks.
Christopher Giles was the two-goal hero in a similar (3-2) win by Guyana Veterans 'A' over Barnstonworth Rovers 'B' at East River Park. Kevin Darlington accounted for the other Guyana strike.

LOCAL DERBY
In a clash between the Over-30 division's two other Guyanese clubs, Pele Masters pipped Guyana Veterans 'B' 4-3 at the Parade Field.
Joel Wickham (two), John Paul Pierre-Louis and Wayne Israel connected for Pele, with Rickland Hutson and Bernard Britton among the scorers for Guyana 'B.'

MASTERFUL METROS
Carim and Archie each had a brace in GH Metros' 4-1 victory over Westchester FC at the Metropolitan Oval.
Also at the Oval, Hernan Paredes connected twice in the Barnstonworth 'A' team's 4-1 romp over SC Gjoa.
