As winter turns to spring, so our thoughts turn to the festival season, and where better to start than the Earth Mother of all festivals, Glastonbury.
This year’s event will take place on the weekend of 27th, 28th and 29th June and promises an eclectic mix of performers, as usual.
The line up is now coming together and includes headliners Jay Z, The Verve, and Kings of Leon.
The latest additions to the bill are The Editors, Goldfrapp, The Fratellis, and The Enemy. Also appearing are electro act Hot Chip, reggae legend Jimmy Cliff, and recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Leonard Cohen.
This year also sees the launch of Glastonbury’s new late night entertainment area - Shangri-La - which encompasses an area of 40 acres and will include 12 stages, a village green, sideshows, and many surprise attractions.
More importantly, it will be licenced until 6am both Friday and Saturday night.
The full musical line-up will be revealed, alongside the rest of the main Festival acts, at the beginning of June.
“This is a new venture, on a par with the launch of the Park last year, and I’m really excited about it,” says Festival organiser Michael Eavis.
“These are the fields that started off as Wango Riley’s, back in the old travellers’ days. They’ve got history, character and a great track record.
“As always we are continuing to improve and expand, and we’re expecting this area to provide even more fun. I can promise it’ll be 100 per cent better!”
Can you promise to keep the rain away though, eh Michael?
The deadline for Glastonbury’s pre-registration scheme ends this weekend and applications must be received before midnight on Friday 14 March.
