Manchester City will travel to the United States this summer to play a series of matches during the Club’s 2018 pre-season tour, including one match in New York City.
Further destinations and opposition teams will be announced in the coming weeks. City’s matches will see the team compete in the United States International Champions Cup tournament for the second year running.
Manchester City are progressing well across all four competitions this season. The team is leading the Premier League by double digits and will compete in the final of the League Cup Final later this month. City have also qualified for the knock-out stages of the UEFA Champions League and are through to the fifth round of the FA Cup. This comes after last summer’s successful pre-season tour of the US where the team visited Houston, Los Angeles and Nashville.
To announce the upcoming tour, City defender Benjamin Mendy visited New York City to surprise local fans and deliver the exciting news in person.
Speaking at a fan event of the top of the Rockefeller Center, Mendy said: “It’s been amazing to come to New York City to announce the tour and give some local fans a real surprise! The soccer fans in the United States are so passionate about the game and it’s always a pleasure to visit here.
“When I go back to Manchester and tell the players about my trip I know they will be really excited to come here in the summer. We can’t wait to play in front of our US fans again.”
